How much does it cost?

The evaluation version is free. Licensed version prices depend on how many email accounts you would like to forward from. See the Buy page for more information.

If you do not purchase a registration key and the evaluation version runs out, it will switch to free mode. The free version has limited functionality and can only query 1 account for mail. The limited functionality includes unchangeable 60 minute check frequencies, only 1 Forward To, no filtering options (everything is forwarded), no forwarding options, no scheduling or other advanced features, and a daily forward limit of 25 emails.

Are there any other costs to using this software?

Not by us. If you are forwarding your email to a cell phone, pager, Blackberry or other device, there are sometimes charges from your carrier for text messages (also known as SMS). Please contact your carrier for more information.

What are the system requirements?

  • Operating Systems: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, or any other java-enabled OS
  • Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4 or greater (included in Windows download, already built in to Mac OS X)
  • Minimum system: Pentium (or equivalent) with 128MB RAM
  • Internet connection (Constant internet connection for non-Windows OS, Constant or dial-up for Windows)

Why did I stop getting new messages on my Blackberry?

Your Blackberry's WebClient may be full. Deleting messages from your Blackberry does not delete the messages from the server. Please follow the Blackberry WebClient Setup instructions to handle this problem.

Are product updates free?

All releases within version 4.X will remain free. You can check for and download updates from within VersaForward Personal.

What are the advantages of VersaForward in comparison to other forwarding methods?

  • Powerful filters based on any criteria (From, Subject, or Content) you specify so only emails you want are forwarded.
  • Advanced Text Reduction so you get more of your email content on your text-constrained device (cell phone or pager). You can also define your own reductions and remove unwanted text.
  • Customizable email account check frequencies so you can check each account as often as you need.
  • Forwarded emails retain the original To, From, and CC email lists so you can reply directly and immediately to the email.
  • Scheduling options so emails are only forwarded at certain times.
  • Forwards emails to multiple target email addresses. Each address you forward to can have its own forwarding and scheduling options. For example, this allows a single email to be forwarded to your cell phone with text reduction but forwarded to another email account without text reduction.

I shutdown my email account. Can I forward that email to another address?

No, your email account that you wish to forward from must be active. If you cannot access your email, neither can VersaForward Personal.

Why would I want my email forwarded?

  • Multiple accounts can be consolidated to one email account that you check regularly.
  • You may not have access to each of your email accounts from a particular location or while traveling.
  • Forwarding to a mobile device allows you to get your messages more quickly and while you are away from your computer.
  • Forwarding can protect important email addresses from spammers. When you give others your email address, it is often given to third parties and ends up on email lists used by spammers. This can be expensive, especially if you receive spam on your cell phone. So instead, many people will give out a secondary email account. VersaForward can check that secondary account using filters and forward the important messages to your main account.

Can I forward from AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, Earthlink, AT&T, or my company's email system?

VersaForward can check POP, IMAP, Secure (SSL) POP, and Secure (SSL) IMAP accounts.

Earthlink, AT&T, and most standard Internet providers use POP and can be checked.

Most company email systems can be checked. Microsoft Exchange servers that require SPA (Secure Password Authentication) cannot be checked since this is a proprietary technology. Not all Exchange servers have SPA required.

Yahoo, MSN, and Hotmail are web-based systems that cannot be directly checked. Yahoo is an exception to this if you pay for Yahoo POP Access.

Web-based accounts can also be accessed with additional software. There are two free programs, YahooPOPs! (for Yahoo) and Mr Postman (for Yahoo & Hotmail), and one shareware program, Web2Pop (for most web mail systems). This software runs along with VersaForward Personal or any email client. See their sites for server settings to use with these programs.

AOL (America Online) email can be forwarded because they now offer IMAP email access.

VersaForward Personal should be in Advanced Mode (click Application - Application Mode in the VersaForward Personal Menu). The Accounts - Servers page in VersaForward Personal should look like this, with your particular Email Address, Username, and Password:

As you can see, AOL uses IMAP and requires SMTP authentication. Although the Out Server works with standard port number 25, AOL suggests use of port number 587. AOL requires the "From" to be your AOL address so forwarded emails will not have the original return address. A better alternative is to use a different SMTP server if you have access to one. For further details on AOL's mail system, please contact AOL.

In rare cases, AOL may not have enabled IMAP support for your account. AOL's customer support can open a technical support ticket and usually fix the issue in 24 hours. It takes a while to explain the issue to AOL's support because they are apparently not very informed on IMAP access.

AOL will not report email properly over IMAP if the inbox has more than 1,000 emails in it. To ensure proper forwarding, make sure the email count remains less than 1,000.

What is my phone's email address? What are the character limits?

The following table contains details on some common cell phone and pager carriers and their text messaging services (also known as SMS or Short Message Service). Please be sure to check with your provider for the cost of text messaging and more up to date information on your specfic service.

The word "number" below refers to your 10 digit cell or pager number.
